START-OF-YEAR MIS SETUP

Once the timetable has been written, issued, and uploaded into the school’s MIS, configuring the MIS so that all pupils are allocated to the correct teaching groups in accordance with their subject choices and subject sets is a major task that has to be carried out before the new academic year can begin. And it is a task that cannot really be done until after public examination results, when the pupils on roll become somewhat clearer and significant changes to subject choices will occur.

At this time of year this is a task which often falls to the member of the senior management team with responsibility for matters academic. However, this is precisely the time of year when that person will be pre-occupied with meetings with parents and pupils to discuss options in light of examination results and with analysis of examination results. At the same time, this is not purely an administrative task because a deep understanding of the timetable structure is necessary in order to be able to carry out this task.
